Title: | Detection of binary NEAs from sparse photometry |
Author: | Josef Durech, Charles University, Prague |
All-sky surveys like Pan-STARRS and LSST will provide us with photometric data that can be used for deriving asteroid models. I will discuss the possibility of detecting asynchronous binary NEAs from accurate sparse photometry. Simulations based on Pan-STARRS cadences show that in some cases mutual events in binary systems are visible in the data. Synchronous binaries can be detected based on "brick-like" or "rectangular" shapes they produce when modelled as convex bodies.
